special thanks to the crew who helped eat the pancakes. it was a tough job. haha :)
so there is something just not fair that you used pancakes as an example because even before you said it i wanted to shoot pancakes. my friend paula makes very beautiful and delicious pancakes. i told her a while ago that i wanted her t cook them for me so i could do a shoot s i did it anyways. i shot pancakes.
i used window light with tinfoil for fill.
these are 2 other photos of the bottle i like the one with all sand because it shows how sharp the bottle is best but the other shot fit best with the knee shot.
I’m not a very political person. I actually try and avoid them as much as I can. So mine is a bit less government related. But still very important to me.
Clean the Beach!!!
When I was about 4 or 5 I was at the beach for 4th of July and slid my knee over a broken glass bottle that was buried in the sand. I went to Santa Monica hospital and had an awful experience having to get stitches in my knee. Luckily I was young and don’t really remember much but I will always have a scar all the way across my left knee. No one, much less 4 year old, should have to worry about being cut by something under the sand.
Personally I try never to bring glass bottles to the beach and if I do always take them with me. I just really don’t understand people who leave trash at the beach, especially dangerous trash.
i wanted to do a diptic showing cause and effect. cause being a broken bottle in the sand and effect being the scar to my knee.
My adventures in collaboration
I met a girl on my trip to Tahoe who is in a styling class. She told me her concept and I really liked it so I helped out. It is weird letting go of the control of how things look. Even though we talked a lot about placement and she took some of my suggestions. She wanted the photos to have an instagram feel. The ones she liked were hazier but I liked them a bit more clear.
They were shot in studio. They are composites because she didn’t want to have to buy tons of astro turf.
In the 1st photo I shot the shoes, then the shirt w/frame, and then the pants
The 2nd photo I shot the jacket, sweater and camera, and then the shoes shorts and other camera.
The 3rd shot was able to all fit on the astro turf
I used a 10-degree grid over top with wax paper diffusion and a soft box low power for fill camera right.

this is my promo spread. i wanted to pair a still life of the sax with the sax “player”. the dress was chosen to mimic the sax and it felt very jazzy to me. all in all im very happy with how these turned out.
they were shot in Acton,CA (just north of LA and my hometown) i shot both photos wide open at 1.4
so this week for me has been an emotional roller coaster. on saturday my best friend of 16 years found out she had a brain tumor which was causing fluid build up in her brain. that day i flew down to UCLA medical center to be with her. she went into surgery monday and the surgery was a success. they released the fluid in her brain but the tumor is inoperable because it is too close to her brain stem. the tumor is as of now benign and she will be living with it for the rest of her life. today (tuesday) she came home and looks and feels amazing. she is truly one of the most inspirational and brave people i have ever met.
these photos were taken just hours before she went in for surgery.
these are a few photos i’ve taken at home. i’m planning on shooting some more tomorrow before i leave because im not completely happy with the ones i have. i really like how on the 3rd one the background went blue. it was a happy accident but it worked out.
my light was natural window light with a clamp light for fill.
